This week I will tell you about

Recount Text

Recount text is a type of text in English learning
that has the function of retelling events or experiences
that occurred in the past.

Kinds of Recount Text

Various types of recount text can be seen below:

Personal recount

Personal recount is a recount text that

functions to tell the author's personal experience.

Factual recount

Factual recount is a recount text that serves

to present reports of events that actually occurred,

such as reports on scientific experiments or police reports.

Imaginative

Imaginative is a type of recount text that serves

to present an imaginative story. Then write

down the events or incidents that have occurred.

Recount Text structure

The recount text structure is divided into 3 parts:

Orientation

In this first stage, the author is asked to provide

an introduction in the form of information about

who, where, when the event or incidents

occurred in the past. In this section, the author is

expected to provide the reader with the

information necessary to understand

the entirety of the text.

Example:

Yesterday I stayed the night at my friend's

house, Delia, with my other three friends,

Amanda, Tiara and Clarisse. Delia's house

is so pretty. It has a big garden with a lot

of kind of flowers and a big swimming pool.

Right from the balcony, we can see the scenery

of the whole of Bandung city.

Events

In this second stage, the writer can convey or

tell the events or events that occurred. Authors

are asked to write stories in chronological

order. Like 'In the first day .... In the next day ....

In the last day ... '

Reorientation

This last stage is the stage of repeating the

introduction in the first stage. The existing loop

summarizes all the events or incidents that were told.

In the last stage, the writer can write a summary

of all the events or incidents that are told.

Authors can also write comments or personal

impressions of events or incidents that

have occurred.

Example:

We finally go to sleep around 2 AM,

it was late, but we had so much fun.

I would love to go back to Delia's house.

Example:

When we first arrived at 8 AM, Delia has welcomed us and asked us to get around the house as she explains all the room inside her home along with its function. After walking around the house, we gathered at Delia's room to put our things. Then, we go to the garden and have some tea while chatting with each other.

At 12 PM, Delia asked us to eat the lunch prepared by the chef. The food was delicious. It was a traditional food from Korea. After lunch, we decided to go swimming. We had a good time. Around 5 PM, we cleaned ourselves and prepared for a BBQ session for the night. We ate a lot of meat and saw the city lights of Bandung City. Right by 11 PM, we got back to the house and sat in a circle in Delia's room to talk and have some discussion.

Recount Text Features

When writing a recount text, make sure the

following characteristics are included in your writing.

Using past tense sentences

Example: I spent my summer in

Yogyakarta and I was very happy.

Using the verbs action

Example: spent, went, brought, took, etc.

Use adverbs and adverbial phrases to

express a time, place and way.

Example: last month, in Malang, lately, etc.

Use conjunctions and time connectives

to sort events or occurrences.

Example: and, or, after that, etc.

And also I make recount text

based on my own experience :

Orientation

Two years ago, on December 20, 2019, I met my idol, HIVI! I met them at an event my middle school held. Not only were they invited, but other artists as well. Like Tulus, Nadine Amizah, and others. Luckily I became one of the committee members and became their Liaison officer (LO).

Events

Actually, before that I wasn't the LO of HIVI! But after I heard that I became their LO I was very happy. When I was LO HIVI! , we formed a team. We are in charge of preparing what the artist needs, from food, towels, and other equipment requested. After all the equipment is ready, we are waiting for HIVI! come. Then, continued with, on guard in front of the room so that no one passed by. Because in front of the HIVI room is the road leading to the basement. So we direct people to go another way. Furthermore, when it was HIVI's turn, we escorted them to the stage. Also, we escort them back to their room again.

Reorientation

They are very friendly people. I idolize HIVI! because I really like their song. Meeting me at the event and becoming their LO, made me feel very lucky. It was a very pleasant experience for me.
